Late Filers....

If your return has not yet been accepted by the IRS yet, or your state ( currently supporting CA, GA, IL KS, MI, MO, OH), you can still eFile your Federal or State return, or continue making corrections and re-submit your returns. The last eFile must be submitted before 10:00 AM Central October 15, 2009. If you have errors to correct you can submit your corrections before 10:00 AM on October 20, 2009. Click here to review the IRS deadline page. If you owe taxes you may be assessed a late fee by the IRS and your State. The IRS or State will notify you after acceptance if an additional fee and interest are due.

Always pay taxes by April 15th for the current tax year to avoid penalties even if your tax forms are not complete. You can efile or send your forms late, but pay an estimate of what you owe if you will have an amount due.

File an Amended return (IRS Form 1040X) to correct errors on previously accepted returns - the most common error is late W2's or other income which was not included in your original filing. This cannot be efiled. You must file a 1040X with a paper return.

Previous Tax Years - there is no deadline for overdue returns. They cannot be efiled and must be filed with paper return. You can search for previous year Forms at the IRS website. Use their Search box and type in '2007 forms' for example.
